From September 24 to November 27, 2026, the group exhibition “BERLIN (Photographs 1979–2025)” at the Das Foto Image Factory presents a focused visual distillate of urban documentary photography.
Curated by Berlin-based photographer Christian Reister, the exhibition brings together four distinct artistic positions along 20 running meters of wall space. Alongside Reister’s own high-contrast night photography, the exhibition features works by his influences and companions: Miron Zownir, Andreas Rost, and Holger Biermann. Rather than presenting an academic chronicle, the show unfolds as a subjective generational dialogue spanning from West Berlin in the late 1970s through the post-reunification era and into the present day. The result is an unvarnished portrait of a city that is constantly rewriting itself.
September 24 – November 27, 2026 Gallery Hours: Thu and Fri, 10 AM – 4 PM Opening Reception: Friday, September 18, 2026 at 7 PM Location: Das Foto Image Factory, Wilhelmstraße 118, 10963 Berlin Admission: Free Press Contact: Christian Reister, mail@christianreister.com Events accompanying the exhibition will be announced here soon.

Was genau, durfte ich mir aussuchen.
(Jian Jian) Nr. 7 mit unserer gemeinsamen Arbeit: A DAY IN BERLIN.

Dear friends,
Somehow, everything is always connected… Last year, I shared a table with Christoph Schieder at Fanzineist Vienna (a fantastic event, by the way!). Just a few tables down, Uhm! Publishing was showcasing several issues of the magazine 兼兼 (Jian Jian). Stefano Samà—the head of the London-based indie publisher and the magazine with the Chinese title—and I got talking and swapped publications. Eventually, Stefano invited me to fill one of the upcoming issues with my photos. The only conditions: the work had to be shot specifically for this, on film, and in black and white. Other than that, the subject was entirely up to me.
I took this as an opportunity to tackle an idea I’d had in mind for a long time: photographing Berlin for a full 24 hours, from midnight to midnight. June 21st was the perfect date—the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, a Saturday, and Fête de la Musique… Stefano agreed immediately. But I also felt a bit uneasy—filling an entire magazine (about 50 pages) by myself in just one day could easily go wrong. What if I just didn’t find enough good images? Or any at all? Well… if you’re going to fail, maybe it’s better to do it together?
Without further ado, I asked my old friend and fellow photographer Holger Biermann if he’d like to “share” the project with me. We’ve known each other forever, and it was high time we did a project together anyway. Holger said yes right away, and so we both spent that day out shooting independently of each other. We had the 13 rolls of film developed at Safelight(thanks to our sponsor! Thanks, Alessandro, you’re amazing!), and we were more than pleasantly surprised when we saw the scans. It truly could have gone a lot worse! We both feel that we’ve rarely made such extensive and successful use of a single day photographically.
Stefano was thrilled as well, and now 兼兼 (Jian Jian) No. 7 is being released featuring our collaborative work: A DAY IN BERLIN. We’ll be celebrating the magazine release in March at Safelight Berlin(and again: Thank you! woohoo!) and in April at the Photobook Café London(I’m really looking forward to that—I’ve never been, but I’ve heard it’s great!). Our publisher is even flying in specifically for the Berlin event, so please don’t let us down—come by and celebrate with us!
