About the Print
I photographed the fox on the Gustav Heinemann Bridge, which connects the main railway station with the government district in Berlin, in March 2021. You can see the Federal Chancellery in the background. It was one of those lockdown winter nights during the never-ending coronavirus pandemic that I spent taking long walks at night. That evening, as so often, I was out and about with Christoph Schieder, with whom I ended up compiling a publication of our photographs from that winter. Under the title “schöner wärs wenns schöner wär”, we published a large-format photo book of our walks together and showed extracts of the pictures in three exhibitions.
The fox stood out in my photos because it was at least one animal in countless pictures of deserted Berlin. It was often printed as a press photo and last year also became the cover motif for my postcard book “Berlin After Dark”. A large photo print has been hanging in my workrooms for years – for me, this is the ultimate test of whether a photograph is also suitable as a mural.
Now the fox is available in a new large-format screen print edition in copper and black. Like my Gorilla print two years ago, the print was realised by Oliver Nerlich Siebdruck in Berlin Neukölln. The edition is limited to 100 pieces, each print is numbered and signed on the front and stamped on the back. Measuring 70x100cm on 300g paper, it fits into any available frame of this size.
