Website update: NACHT.
When I first heard some of the new songs from Andreas Albrechts new album, there was this one among them with the title “Nacht” (“Night”). A current photo project I’m working on has the same working title and much of a related athmosphere. So when Andreas came up with the idea making some kind of photo film video for the song with my photographs I first tried to bring it together with my new photographs but soon realized that this would not work. I always find it extremly difficult to combine music with lyrics and photography in a really cross-fertilizing way. In most cases there is always one medium “too loud” – either the images are too clear and strong to let space for lyrics or vice versa. So we decided to drop that idea and try to be as open as possible taking photos along a long shared trip through a Berlin summer night. We went by bike and feet, finally had a few hundreds of photos and Andreas would just take them home and do whatever he wanted to to with them. Full screen view recommended.
I’m starting the week with editing and postproduction work on a series of portraits I have made in New York last month in the style of my Londonders series from three years ago. It’s so fascinating to look through such a broad diversity of characters. I feel thankful to all the 180 persons who permitted me to take their picture and feel kind of sorry for everyone I have to sort out to get a decent collection of 50.
Vienna – what a charming city! The opening on Friday was quite full – 150?… 200? visitors – something like that. The gallery isn’t als big as the Berlin venue was, it’s more like a 3 room apartment here. That means that the exhibition is a bit more focused and that works very well I think. There’s another “Gallery Talk and Tour” today (2 – 5 pm) – so if you should be around Vienna – check this.
Tomorrow, 7pm: if you should be in or around Vienna, don’t miss the opening of Seconds2Real’s group show at Anzenberger Gallery. It’s the first time that I’m involved in an exhibition in Austria. I’m looking forward to a few days in Vienna meeting lots of nice people, celebrating the opening party for the 2ed Fascination Street exhibition and hopefully finding some good moments while photographing in the city. While I had some of my newer pictures in the Berlin edition of Fascination Street last autumn, the Vienna show will include some of my ALEX series from 2008-2010.
Btw: ORF published a nice article about Street Photography and Seconds2Real yesterday (German only).
As a part of the Indie Photobook Library, my book ALEX is on exhibition at the New York Photo Festival this weekend like it was at the snap! Festival in Orlando, Florida last weekend. So if you should be around Dumbo…
Since I joined Seconds2Real at the end of last year friends and photo buddies are asking me questions like „What is that? Just a website or what? How can that work as you all come from different cities? What are your plans and aims?“ Seconds2Real is quite popular in the online street photographer scene but the offline world often doen’t know about the co-operative at all.
On Feb. 12 there’ll be an evening with Seconds2Real at exp12 Gallery in Berlin. Guido Steenkamp, Thorsten Strasas, me (all from Berlin), Andreas Stelter (Minden), Mario Cuic (Munic), Siegfried Hansen (Hamburg), Natalie Opocensky (Vienna) will introduce their works and the concept of Seconds2Real in open discussion with the audience. Detail information soon on blog61 and of course on the Seconds2Real website.
